Overall aim of this study
The aim of this study is to set up a UK cohort of patients with idiopathic and heritable pulmonary arterial pulmonary hypertension (PAH) for research into the causes and potential treatments of this condition. PAH is a life-limiting, rare disease characterised by high blood pressure in the lungs. As a part of this study we wish to recruit controls for comparison studies.
Can I take part?
We are looking for healthy volunteers aged between (16-75 years) to give a one off blood sample of 30 mls (2 tablespoons).
The following criteria would exclude you from the study
Exclusion Criteria
Pregnant or if you think you may be pregnant
If you have taken antibiotics in the last month
Had a history of:
Connective tissue disease
Liver disease
Heart disease
Hypertension
Diabetes
Lung disease
Inflammatory bowel disease
On any regular medication for the above conditions
Previous drug history of cocaine or methamphetamine
We would also like to collect some of your medical information such as past medical history. All information will be anonymised, each participant only be identified by a unique study number and all personal information (e.g. name) will be removed.
By taking part in the study you will contribute to a greater understanding of PAH and you will also be reimbursed £10 for your time.
